The News From Arkansas

Thank god it's June. May was a bummer. Yeah, I know...it's been a while. I've been in the nether regions of my brain. I don't want to hear about it but thanks for continuing to check in. Lifeboat John is always good for that.

So here's a little article rather, letter to the editor, to make your head spin. I can't believe evolution doesn't take care of these idiots. (For those of you wearing coke bottle glass for spectacles, double click the image to get a larger version-- this is as big as Blogger will let me get it.) Wow. All I can say is, "wow".

She has a point. If congress decides that the earth should rotate slower to allow for an extra hour sun, they should really consider all of the consequences. What's next?

Good eyes Megan -- you've clearly helped uncover the latest Liberal Plot to Take Over the World (first it was Rock & Roll (which lead to dancing), now it's total domination of the Physical Laws of the Universe).

You've performed an important service...

I like to be a citizen of the world, Tom. And clearly, us folks up here in the north have a thing or two to learn from the Confederate school system in Arkansas.

Jeremy, I'm surprises the author didn't mention how Congress also turned the sun's thermostat up a couple of notches. I mean, really. Who DO they think they are fooling?

Geez, MK. Way to snatch that right off www.theCORgroup.org .... shameless.
Here was theCORview:

This is an important cautionary tale. We must be attentive to unanticipated impacts of policy-making on climate, rural economies, and the average American livelihood. We must not take it for granted that the climate benefits of a policy (energy-savings, in this case) necessarily outweigh potential negative impacts (additional warming from extended daylight). Our recommendation - critical analysis of all potential consequences of climate policy is essential, as are periodic reviews of the policy after implementation.

Oops! Sorry, Pete! I actually received this in an email from a friend here in Duluth. I, sadly, didn't bother to refer to the CORgroup. There's just too many blogs to keep track of!! Maybe if your desk was right next to mine I could avoid future errors.

No problem, MK. That was more for shameless self-promotion than an indictment of your journalistic abilities. You raise an interesting point with adjacent desks, though I fear that could result in some sort of matter-antimatter implosion...

Speaking of journalism and further self-promotion: this is what theCORgroup had to say in a later post on this topic:

"theCORgroup would like to thank all of our attentive readers for your comments on the 5.7.07 post “Daylight Exacerbates Warning (sic).” We have carefully reviewed the scientific literature and consulted experts and have definitively concluded that the amount of solar radiation cannot be altered by an Act of Congress. (Please note: Connie Meskimen’s original letter to the editor was also satirical. She is actually a lawyer in Arkansas known for sharp, satirical op-ed pieces.)"

Imagine if we eliminated daylight saving time completely. The global cooling from the hour "lost" would probably precipitate another ice age!
